WHAT THE NJ INSPECTION CHECKS — AND WE FIX
New Jersey's inspection for passenger cars is an emissions test (an OBD-II scan). Here is what decides whether you pass, plus a few safety items we can check while your car is here.
Check Engine Light
An active check engine light means emissions codes are stored, and your car will not pass. We read the code and repair the cause.
Emissions Readiness (OBD)
NJ reads your car's OBD-II data, including readiness monitors. We make sure they are set before you go.
Gas Cap & Fuel Vapor System
A loose or damaged gas cap can trigger an emissions code. We check the cap and look for vapor leaks.
Sensors & Exhaust
Failing oxygen sensors, a worn catalytic converter, or exhaust leaks can set emissions codes. We test them.
Brakes (optional safety check)
Not part of the NJ test, but we can check pads, rotors, and fluid while you're here.
Tires (optional safety check)
Not part of the NJ test. We check tread depth, condition, and inflation for safety.
Lights & Wipers (optional safety check)
Not part of the NJ test. Quick to check, and safer to fix early.
Steering & Suspension (optional safety check)
Not part of the NJ test. We look at ball joints, tie rods, and shocks for wear.
